We're getting a small percentage of our calls to our 800 number that have a three digit ANI instead of a 5 digit ANI (internal) or a 10 digit ANI (external). Sometimes the ANI might be the first three digits of the client's number, but other times it is not quite as clear. This is the ANI as reported in the TServer log. We're using a Siemens Hicom 300ECS switch.

Have other people had problems with certain numbers not reporting a correct ANI? Is this a switch issue, a telco issue, or an issue with some outside switch not being programmed correctly? For calls outside the US, we get more than 10, which seems to include the country code. What should my expectations be regarding calls from outside the US?

I would imagine that since the ANI is being passed from the Telco it would be on that end...

  • Have your carrier people and your PBX people get together. Chances are they are having their trunks overrun.

I would tend to agree. Sounds like a Telco problem.

Might just be area code only, Some business set up the PBX's to send only the NPA. We get them all the time.
