Hello!

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for continuing to make this forum such a great success. I found information here to be at times indispensable to making correct decisions about product introduction and successful project completion.

Looking through the wealth of information contained here and technical expertise pool assembled, I decided to take the next logical step establish an online Genesys Developer Group. Many of us live in different countries and each one of us have a unique perspective about the CTI market in that particular area, its needs, demands, and direction it is heading. Some of us are call center administrators, Genesys developers, call center consultants, PBX engineers, and even marketing personnel.

Few weeks back, few of us started throwing emails back and forth discussing a possibility of creating an online Genesys developer/consulting group, which would work together on developing and providing various Genesys elated services and products for distribution in our respective areas.

So far, the response was overwhelming. Among few of the first products considered were (in no particular order): Webased SoftPhone, Cserver libraries, Ccon reporting utilities, and so on.

I polled few different people from regions such as Europe, Korea, Japan, North America, South America, Australia and Africa, and it seems like we all want the same functionality with a little variation here or there.

So question is should we all reinvent the bicyle on our own, or work together on developing the product and offering it in our respective markets? How many times do we need to redevelop the SoftPhone?!

I realize that there are a lot of issues such as commitment, copyright, financial compensation, etc that need to be considered. And this is where I would like to ask for your input:
how do you foresee this group develop
what products or services should this group consider offering?

I realize that some of us are working for different and sometimes rival companies; however, based on my experience so far, I found that working together created more opportunities and generated more revenues, than trying to outpace each other.

Needless to say, feel free to email me directly at forum@starsystems.co.jp with your ideas and suggestions or reply right here.

I will keep you updated on the progress. And I really hope that we will all benefit from working closer together. After all, we all have the same goal avoid rebooting Genesys at 2 AM on Saturday morning :)

  • It is about time someone thought of it! I don't know much about marketing, but if you need someone to program a phone application for you then count me in.
What kind of application do you envision our group to develop?

I am very interesting in joining this forum.

    Hi !

Just a prima facie thought, I think this should be shareware kind
of undertaking. There need not be any financial implications involved
or if there are any they should be extremely meagre, just a token
    recognition of contribution.
The products and services should be generic and not related to any
company's projects. The generic product/service may be used
in a commercial product, but the generic product itself should not
have a commercial interest behind it.

I am sure there will be many who would want to be part of this
group. May I suggest that whoever is part of the group must obtain
a permission or approval from his/her organization.

Regardless of whether you agree with above, I would be interested in
    joining the group.

How has been the response in direct emails, apart from the messages
    in this Forum ?

    Regards

    Shiva

    Thank you for your response.
So far, the response has been fairly good. As I have mentioned it in a post, I have already discussed this with some of the people from this forum, and it is a go.

I think a shareware/freeware approach is the best way to do it. In fact, it might be the ONLY way to do it. I will be enclosing a document, still in a process of making which was put together by few of the people from this forum. you cann see it by selectig Developer Forum in the left frame.

It is far from over, but at least it shows a direction, in which Genesys Developer Forum is heading.

As always, feel free to post any ideas you might have or email them to forum@starsystems.co.jp

    Dear Forum Administrator!
How are you? This is an interesting idea.
    I looked at your document.
I think there is a potential for both freeware and payware(?) here.
Developing a softphone application is the first step, correct?
I think the basic softphone should be a freeware application.
Then, should someone need a customization, we will assemble a group to customize it and decide on the price.
    What do you think?

At any rate, count me in!
    A!

I am currently developing a basic softphone version.
Why not use it as a basic framework for the first product?
And how to I put the code online?

    Confused byt ticking,

    Dear Shiva,

I think you are right. But I do not think getting the permission from the current company we are working for should be a requirement. Some of us are doing a bit of freelancing on the side, and I am certain that the company would not be too happy about that. In regards to the revenue model, I think it would be better if we develop it as a shareware and/or freeware and then have an option of distributing it on a payy bases to our clients.
I liked the idea mentioned by the forum administrator about selling the product to our domestic markets. So, I think it would be better if the people who work on the project have the right to commercially distribute it in their own country. I think this way it would increase every person's involvement in the project.
I would like to join the developer group. How can I contribute? Nonwebased would probably be the best place: I think developing a standardized softphone would be really great. Also, developing some kind of software to tell us the number of calls in a queue would be something I can offer to my clients here in Korea. I am no god in programming does it mean I cannot join the group?

can improve and ease the support and usage of the system.

    Luben,

I have a feeling that this is an imported thread from the old starsystem forum, hence the dates and also all usernames being 'Guest'.

Would be interested to see if anything has come of this myself though :]

    Dear all,

I am thinking about what is the best way to start with online development forum here. The product should not be too complicated, because we really do not know who can do what. So, I am thinking about something like a wallboard server for starters.
What do you think? What are some of the features do you think we would need?

    Best regards,
    Vic

I had posted about that other site "Bob" had found, but the forum  :)> removed my posting ;).  Bob posted radiway.com which appears to be a call center tech site. I checked it out and they have some documentation and helpful hints, looks like they only have 20 or so users so far.
