What are your experiences with Genesys exams?

What is the average failure rate?

I heard about failure rates of about 75% to 90% when taking the exam for the first time.

It only depends on your experience and how much you read. Genesys has its statistics but I also know that they are changing their exam methods to get lower failure scenarios.

hehe - I have a few bits of paper from Genesys... ;) ...and I'm a CGE.

My CGE was back in the day when 5.2 was "new" and I've had updates to that qualification, through 6.2 and 7.x.  I've always considered the earlier versions were much more "difficult", since we were talking piecemeal installation, checking via logging, TServer installs via DOS prompts, etc.  Today there is a "Wizard" for everything and a lot of the time you find yourself following a "do this first - then that..." series of instructions without actually having to know what you are doing.  Support is always there if an install goes wrong so, for most engineers, there are no problems.  I suppose it depends on where you go, how you take the exam and what version you took...

For my part, 90% pass rate was normal.  Those who failed were offered the opportunity to re-take the final exam - not sure if they went for it, though.

I did my CGE and CGRP around the same time as Tony, I'm sure the process has changed considerably since then!

I have passed every Genesys exam on the first try starting with 6.5 except for the most recent DIV exam.  This exam is by far the hardest.  I took the exam in Las Vegas in 06 and failed it after passing the CIV and GVP exams the day before.  A partner of mine took it in San Diego in 07, and he failed it.  I heard that only a couple of peopled passed the DIV in San Diego.  I'm taking it again in San Antonio, but if they haven't changed it, i'm sure I will have the same results.  I'm trying to prepare a little better this time, although I thought I was ready for it last time.  When I took the 6.5 routing exam it was much easier.  The 7.x DIV exam is just tricky, they shouldn't ask the questions as tricky as they do.  Anyway hope that helps.

Based on what we've been discussing, we could be saying then that the process of installation and configuration has gotten considerably easier, whilst the certification process (and more notably) the examination has possibly gotten harder?  Whether those examinations are still relational could be a question we could (collectively) answer...

What I mean is; If the installations at 5.2 were more complex then the examination obviously reflected that - now that the installation are fairly straightforwards, the structure and content of the examination has changed (considerably), to ensure that it is (academically) the same level as previous.  Has anyone considered the worth in comparing them - old and new? I do have a couple of questions myself - since I'll now admit to being "old school" (!);

Are the latest CGE examinations open book?
Are some sections multiple choice?
Are the practical examinations full installations and, if not, which Solutions are included?

Does anyone else have opinions in this area?  Is it worth an "anonymous,  hands in the air" Poll to see if we can determine the current success/failure/retake rates, do you think?

Are the latest CGE examinations open book?

-> My CGE 6.5 exam was closed book. The CIV 7 exam of my collegues was also closed book.

Are some sections multiple choice?

-> Most questions (in 6.5 and 7) are multiple choice or single choice.

Are the practical examinations full installations and, if not, which Solutions are included?

-> I do not know of practical exam. Our exams were purely theoretical.

Here in Germany you have to go to a Prometric Test Center to take the exam.

You go into a room with CCTV and there you have a PC where you can take the exam online.

There are 120 questions to answer in 180 minutes.
