Dear all,

can someone please explain to me the purpose behind converting 5.1 environment into G6.x? Genesys provides the conversion wizard (CCW) for this purpose; however, I fail to see it purpose.

I am not talking about places and person upgrade, because it IS necessary when you have thousands of places and persons already defined in your current environment, but G5 application environment, such as TServer, Stat Server, SDialer, etc..

Since G5.x is fundamentally different from G6.x, CCW just copies the application items into G6, without upgrading it. So, I assume Genesys wants to have G5 products use G6 CME and have G6 products interract with G5 applications.

I am not sure if I see the benefit of upgrading the current operating environment to G6 and have G5 products connect to it. Why would G6 products need to know about G5? I do not think that someone would want to use G6 TServer with G5 IR, and even if they did, would it not be safer to recreate the environment by hand, as opposed by CCW?

To me it would make more sense to have G5 CME database where all the current G5 products are running, and then have G6 CME database where G6 products are running.

Perhaps, I am missing something very important, and I would really appreciate if someone could clear it up for me.

Thanks!
Vic

  • Hi Vic,

to migrate a operating environment to G6 you start wiht the CME. Use the ConversionUtility to convert the G5 DB into G6.
(The ConversionUtility must have the Version 6.003 or higher.)
If the CME is running in G6 it´s possible to connect all G5 applications to it.
So the downtime is very short. ( If the Servicetime is 7d/24h)
Now you can start to install the G6 applications.
Some Serve like TServer, StatServer, IR can only use restricted wiht the G6 CME.
The CCA(5.16) and CCPulse can uns unrestricted.

It can bew confusing, but G6x Database has added columns and keys ( though still not truly relational ). The only reason I see for the CCW is if you have a large call center and do not wish to reenter everything. I personally would not use any 5.x products ( except for VTO inwhich there is no 6.x version or current 5.1 routing strategies maybe to save as rewrite ). I wouldn't even recommend 6.0 but go on to 6.1x, it is pretty stable ( inbound, outbound and reporting ) but kind of a pain to set up, for instance Genesys is moving away from support of export utility ( good idea anyway ) so you need to export using database utility and the if converting you must have two schemas ( They assume you want to convert a live DB ). All and all it works ok, it took about 20 minutes to upgrade a medium size callcenter , 60 80 agents ( after export ).

    Hope this is helpful
