Fax Detection Result in Outbound

Hello,

When we are running an outbound campaign, a call result of Dropped is showing for fax numbers.
other records are updating correctly with results such an answer, answer machine detected, no answer.
I think there is a missing configuration somewhere however any related ones seem right.
For example within sipserver, the fax-detected value is set to drop, while the cpd-info-timeout is 3.
The alternative option for fax-detected is connect, which assuming will send the call to an agent.
Whereas we want the call to be dropped, it should still write a call result of fax detected to the calling list?

I have read this about the fax-detected option in sip server deployment guide but not sure if I have to do something more:
Specifies the behavior of SIP Server where CPD is operating and a fax
machine is detected on an outbound call. SIP Server provides the CPD result in
UserData attached to the call as a key-value pair with key AnswerClass
containing the value Fax. This UserData in EventRouteRequest provides extra
information to the strategy, so that the strategy can decide to drop the Fax call if
required.

we using:
sip 8
gvp 8.1
cpd server 7.6
ocs 8
hmp dialogic
gad 7.6

Thanks,
WA

Can you post a OCS log?
Do you have any treatment?

The whole thing depends on what CPD Server returns. CPA is done there, so you will need to check how effective your HMP tuning is.

If Outbound uses CPD Server to dial, all CPA-related options of SIP Server are irrelevant. Most probable cause of your issue is that your fax tone is not recognized by HMP (it may differ from default HMP fax tone definition, it may be too quiet, line may be too noisy, etc.)

Forgot to mention one more possible cause - your SIP Media Gateway may not allow fax tone bypassing from PSTN to IP side at all. Check MGW configuration.

How can I identify which tone is actually coming back and not recognised by hmp?
I would have thought that by using 3 different fax numbers would have at least generated one fax tone.
Thanks.

Kind of strange question.
Configure CPDServer to make cpd recording for a whole duration of dialing phase, dial to your fax number and analyse fax tone in your recording (if there was a fax tone recorded), to figure out why it is not detected.
If there is no fax tone in your cpd recording, check Media Gateway configuration.
By the way, if you dial from SIP Phone to your fax numbers, do you hear fax tone?

In parallel to what it's been suggested, run a Wireshark trace to check what RTP is passed to HMP.

I called a fax number within the calling list using GAD, heard 2 ring tones, then a short fax tone before it went silent rather than continue to transmit it - sound like a Media gatweway setting?

or HMP.
Try to call another fax number and check whether you get the same result. Fax detection is usually not tricky for HMP though.

OK. If you hear fax tone, then MGW is not probably an issue. In this case, you have to perform standard CPA troubleshooting steps:
1. Enable cpd recording on CPDServer.
2. Make OCS dial fax number.
3. Analyze frequency and duration of fax tone in recording and compare it with fax tone definition what is currently in use. If you didn't explicitly re-defined it in CPDServer's options, default definition is singe-frequency burst tone 1100+/-50 Hz, duration 100+ msec.
4. If recorded tone corresponds that definition, but HMP doesn't detect it, contact Genesys or Dialogic support. If not, redefine fax tone in CPDServer options and repeat your test.

All procedures are described in Genesys and Dialogic manuals and pretty simple if you understand what you are dealing with.
